Statistics including bounces

Quick recap about what a bounce is: A bounce is a visitor that has ended up on your website, but exited pretty quick, without any further interaction. Read the technical background on this in our dedicated article “what is a bounce rate“.

From the start Burst has shown the data without the bounces. When we decided this, we thought that bounces wouldn’t be the most interesting data. But in the past. years, we have had a lot of questions from our users about this. As users generally aren’t aware of this fact, they tend to ask why Burst shows less visits then other statistics tools. Because of this, we have decided to change this: as of version 2.0, all data will by default be shown including bounces.

In the before 2.0 versions, this could lead to data where you had more bounces than visits in your dashboard (as the bounces are not part of the visits count). And you could also see pages in the overview without any hits, or countries without any hits. This meant that there were visits, but these were bounced.

If you’d rather keep it the old way, that’s of course still possible. We have added an option ‘Exclude bounces’, where you can set this to exclude bounces from the data again. We’re also preparing a release that will allow you to easily filter bounces from the view in your dashboard. When that happens this settings will not be necessary anymore.

Is my old data still solid?

Absolutely? Actually, nothing changes in the data itself. This is only a matter of filtering. The data doesn’t change, and the tracking doesn’t change. The only difference is that while you were first looking at data without the bounces, you will now see data including the bounces.

What are the consequences for my data?

You will probably see that your statistics shows higher numbers, because the visits now include the bounces. The actual data is not changed. That’s about it!
